Unlimited freedom of movement

Compact, close-fitting freeriding backpack for full freedom of movement

Highlights

  • Ergonomic and flexible
  • Versatile and adjustable
  • Cleverly designed to meet all the demands of the terrain

The FREE RIDER 20 S fits extra snugly against the back when freeriding in any terrain – just like a second skin This is primarily down to the flat, elasticated CLASP FLEX BELT which provides control in every situation as well as reliable support. The soft back pads hug the back perfectly without restricting the movements of the spine. On the inside, the back of the backpack can be fitted with the CLASP SPINE PROTECTOR. This spine protector is certified to motorcycle standards and can be purchased separately. It slides easily into a separate inner pocket. The focus here is both on your safety and on the environment: This freeriding backpack is completely PFC-free and, thanks to the use of recycled polyester, also climate-neutral.

In order to optimally adjust the backpack while on the go, it can be quickly compressed using the integrated side straps and folded into a flat-fitting second skin on the back. When it comes to rappelling into steep gullies or short walking passages, this freeriding backpack has all the necessary attachment options for skis, an ice axe or rope, not to mention the tried-and-tested helmet net, emergency card and hydration system compatibility. All the features are well stowed away on the outside to prevent them catching, even when in difficult terrain.

The compact freeriding backpack also offers enough space for climbing skins and ski crampons, ensuring extra flexibility out on the mountain. Emergency equipment can be neatly stowed away and kept at hand in a separate safety compartment, while all other items in the main compartment are accessible via front or back access. The FREE RIDER 20 S is a versatile companion for maximum flexibility and freedom of movement on skis.

It's really challenging to find packs for specific technical packs that are built to fit women so I'm very happy I found this one! I have taken this on long single-day winter ski tours and it has capacity for all my typical winter gear. In my research, this was the only women specific pack that had at least one hip pocket, A-frame ski carry capability, and a designated avalanche gear pocket. The straps are comfy and I like the helmet carry and the external carry for tools. My very minor gripe is that the left chest buckle is fixed on the left side without an adjustable strap, so only the right chest strap is able to be loosened or tightened, and therefore it must be clipped all the way over by your left shoulder. As a lefty, this is backwards for me and results in some fumbling every time I take the pack off/on. But I'm used to being a lefty in a righty world, so I'll appreciate that I can find an excellent women's technical pack that suits my ski touring needs. Super nice bag! Not bulky at all but built very sturdy. Quality is really really good. Im a short guy and I think this bag is perfect for me. One negative is that Ortovox dont have any instruction guide or videos with regards to these newer bags. Super nice bag! Not bulky at all but built very sturdy. Quality is really really good. Trialed this out pre-ski season on a 10 mile hike and at times forgot I had it on. I am 5'5" and the fit was very comfortable, the back is built stiff so it supports your spine and distributes weight. Enough room to take the essentials on a day trip but not so big it's unwieldy. There are small infographic cards that come with it so you can familiarize yourself with the bells and whistles for helmet and ski attachment, etc., but it would be nice for more detailed instructions online, especially if the cards are misplaced.
